Are horizontal fences cheaper than vertical?
Typically, a horizontal fence is similar in price to a vertical fence if the same types of materials are used. However, because horizontal fences usually require higher quality materials (such as hardwoods or composites) to handle the span between posts without sagging or warping, a horizontal fence can actually be more expensive than a vertical fence. For example, a Trex horizontal fence is usually a little bit more expensive than a Trex vertical fence. Don't let the price tag dissuade you. Keep in mind that a fence is not a purchase for a short term solution. The best materials should last more than a decade (and in the case of Trex, the fence will last at least 25 years), so paying more for the product you want is worth the extra cost once you consider that you are spreading your investment across several years. Given that any fence is not a small purchase regardless of materials, choose the best configuration you can afford within your budget to ensure you don't regret your choice over the years.
