Does Trex Fencing rust?

The composite material of Trex Fencing does not rust, but just like any metal, our Horizons fence system has steel railing that is subject to rust and corrosion. The rails are galvanized and powder-coated for protection, but rusting has still occurred if the metal is exposed to moisture for an extended amount of time. If you live in coastal or humid regions, rusting should be taken into consideration when ordering any fence system with metal components.

Trex Fencing Componentsi is a great resource to better understand the different pieces that Trex Fencing is comprised of. But as a general rule, any of our metal components are susceptible to rusting if left to continued exposure to moisture.

If going with our Seclusions fence system, we do not typically see problems with the aluminum bottom rail rusting since it is covered by composite sleeves. On the other hand, our composite material holds up great when exposed to moisture. In harsh climates, Trex continues to deliver a sturdy, reliable fence system.
