At what height is a mid-rail required?
We recommend that when building a Trex Fence, or any fence for that matter, that a mid-rail be installed for fence heights exceeding 8 feet tall. A mid-rail provides structural integrity and support, reinforcing the section from wind damage and blunt force. The mid-rail for a Trex Fence can be installed by placing brackets midway up the post with a second bottom rail, which serves as the mid-rail. You would then need to cut the pickets to adjust the to the right length above the mid-rail.
Our Architectural Drawings offer more details in regard to when and how a mid-rail should be implemented. Keep in mind that you can install a mid-rail for fencing that is 8 feet high and shorter, but that is not necessary when working with Trex Fencing unless you want the extra support. Some consumers enjoy the look of a mi-rail, in which case installing a mid-rail for aesthetic purposes is totally appropriate. Although it will require some extra work to do so on your end.
